Breastfeeding relationships can take all different forms. Some relationships are easy from start to finish, some go through easy phases and hard phases, and some are difficult. Breastfeeding relationships don't have to be hard, you don't have to "power through it". Help is available, resolution is possible!
My job as a lactation consultant is to help you meet your breastfeeding goals. Initial lactation appointments include a health history for the mother and baby, history of the breastfeeding problem, discussion of the mother's breastfeeding goals, and an examination of the baby and mother. Once the lactation diagnosis has been made, a care plan will be made. The care plan takes into consideration the breastfeeding problem, the mother's goals, and the physical and emotional needs of the mother and baby. There is always more than one way to solve a problem, and so the care plan can be adjusted at any point in the therapy.
If there are any specific therapies that are needed, such as CST (CranioSacral Therapy), RMT (Rhythmic Movement Therapy), or finger feeding, those will take place during the lactation appointment and are included in the fee.
